More than 350 people have packed into three Warrnambool caravan parks this week for the annual catchup of the Avan Club of Australia — a group dedicated to the shared love of the A-frame caravans.
Adelaide’s Bill McGeough had a simple phrase for the group. “It’s a retirement village on wheels — that’s virtually what we are,” Mr McGeough explained.
“The only thing we’ve got in common is the funny shape of the caravans.” All around Australia, clubs have sprung up with the only prerequisite owning the style and Avan brand.
“We’ve got over 208 vans here this week,” club president Cliff Hicks said.
After an annual meeting at the Lighthouse Theatre yesterday, the group kicked back for a few beverages at the Surfside Caravan Park.
