Wow! Frank McCarthy Snr, congratulations on sinking to a new low with your latest letter to The Standard.
You have managed to insult nearly every possible sub-group in society!
You have attacked everyone from men, women and children to republicans and the government!
Your comments are sexist, ageist and homophobic.
You have suggested that the well-earned rights of workers and tenants be taken away and that children should not have access to an informed and relevant education.
Let me assure you that family and educational values are still more important than ever.
However they tend now to include the embracing of diversity and education about sex and relationships to reduce the incidence of teenage pregnancy and the spread of STIs.
They also tend to exclude outdated and damaging techniques such as physical punishment.
Women, regardless of their family status, make a vital and valuable contribution to the workforce and in or out of the sporting arena, men are now encouraged more to express their emotions.
We only need to look at the suicide rate for men, over four times higher than women, to know the dire effects of holding it in and not seeking support.
We still have a vibrant community of people out there that look after each other.
There are thousands of people making a valuable contribution to our community be they gay, straight, working mothers, tearful fathers or young people.
Granted, we still have work to do and much can be learnt from our elders, but this needs to be done respectfully and with a strong message of hope for our children and the generations to come.
