AGL has confirmed this week it has come to “a verbal agreement” on a settlement for roads torn up in the making of the $1 billion development. 

The two sides have been locked in talks for the last year and a formal agreement is expected within weeks.

“Leighton Contractors P/L, AGL Energy Limited and Moyne Shire Council reached agreement in December 2013 regarding remaining road works associated with the Macarthur Wind Farm development,” an AGL spokeswoman said. 

However, the company would not reveal details of the deal. 

“A verbal agreement has been reached,” she said. 

“We’re unable to confirm any final agreements made.” 

The 140-turbine wind farm is co-owned by Malaysian Energy company Malakoff Corporation Berhad, which still needs to tick off on the agreement. 

Malakoff purchased a 50 per cent share of the wind farm from New Zealand state-owned Meridian Energy last year after construction was finished. 

Moyne Shire mayor James Purcell said the council had been in negotiations with AGL for the past year. 

“We’re very happy with the agreement and we think it will be enough to rehabilitate the roads to what they were before,” Cr Purcell said. 

“It (the agreement) is imminent and soon as we get the go-ahead we’ll start the works right away.”
