Shipwreck Coast Motocross Club is hosting round one of the six-round series this weekend and president Alan Primmer said there were 275 entries.
He said riders from the western region, which covered from Mount Gambier to Geelong and as far north as Horsham, would try their luck across 24 classes.
“It’s a good chance for riders to ride on all the different tracks around the region and to test themselves against other riders in the lead-up to the state titles,” he said.
“This weekend we have a few junior riders from other regions as well.
“We are hosting the Junior Victorian title on March 22 and 23, so they are using it as a bit of a chance to get familiar with the track.”
Primmer said there was a strong contingent of local riders competing on Sunday.
“We have Cam Pickett who is competing in the A grade juniors for the first time after he was promoted up a class,” he said.
Primmer said competitors needed to be at the track early on Sunday due to road closures for the Sufferfest Triathlon event.
“We suggest everyone gets to the track before 7am if they want to avoid lengthy delays,” he said.
