Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan, of the Warrnambool crime investigation unit, said the men were both disguised and wore gloves when they entered a home in Scotts Road early Sunday morning.
“We’ve got a couple of leads we are pursuing but we are also calling for information from the public to help solve this disturbing crime,” he said.
“An early resolution to this matter would be beneficial to everyone involved. The victim finished up very battered and bruised.”
Detective Senior Constable Ryan requested anyone with information to contact the Warrnambool police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Emergency services were called to a property on Scotts Road in Crossley at 2.15am Sunday after two men broke into a house through the back door and assaulted a 49-year-old man who was asleep on a couch.
The victim suffered injuries to his head and arms which required surgery at the Warrnambool Base Hospital. The offenders ransacked the house, a rear bungalow and a number of vehicles, causing damage to the property and vehicles before leaving.
Melbourne police crime scene officers and an arson chemist examined the Crossley property on Sunday.
