Victoria has endured its fair share of bushfires in recent months, so it's nice to know the next generation of firefighters will have the skills to protect the state in the future should we see more summers like this one.

Those up-and-coming firies were among competitors of all ages in the Western District Fire Brigades Association competition on the weekend at the Friendly Societies' Park in Warrnambool.

Fourteen brigades took part in the event.
