The ban means no fires can be lit in the open air from midnight tonight until midnight on Sunday.
Tomorrow is expected to be a scorcher around the south-west, with the mercury set to climb to the high 30s in Warrnambool, 40 in Mortlake and 41 in Hamilton.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Scott Williams said northerly winds would pick up in the afternoon inland, but coastal areas would enjoy a slight sea-breeze which will keep temperatures down.
He said the south-west could expect the cool change around dawn on Sunday, after a warm night.
Temperatures are only expected to reach the mid to low 20s across the south-west on Sunday, while the eastern half of the state will remain hot.
