Teams began pedalling at 6.30pm Friday at AquaZone and wound up by 6.30pm Saturday.
Money raised from the fund-raiser will go towards a $20,000 specialised bike which will help Mr Murfett with his rehabilitation from paralysis caused by an overseas road accident.
Spin 4Bryn co-organiser Barry Warren said by the end of the 24 hours, $10,000 had been raised and people had committed to donate more money.
“He’s got a tough road ahead and this is really the least we can do,” he said.
The Sungold Dairy team raised more than $1200 and the Wannon Water team clocked the most mileage, riding more than 800 kilometres. Mr Warren’s efforts weren’t too shabby either, with his family team reaching 665km.
Mr Warren has known Mr Murfett and his family for a number of years and said it was heartening to see such community support.
“The support we’ve had from the community of Warrnambool is just tremendous,” Mr Warren said.
“It’s a hell of a place when it comes to contributions like this. We couldn’t live in a better place.
“The atmosphere was tremendous. We had Kris McCartney and Ella Gill who were the life of the party.”
Mr Warren also praised the team at AquaZone for its support.
The event was part of the 4Bryn appeal that aims to raise $100,000 to help Mr Murfett recover from serious injuries suffered when he was involved in a road accident in Thailand last August.
The 29-year-old has incomplete paraplegia with a severely damaged spinal cord and has no feeling from the waist down.
Confined to a wheelchair, he wants to build upon the uncontrolled spasms in his legs that indicate messages are trying to get through from his brain and spine.
