The Bulldogs jumped from fifth to third after a big day with both bat and ball against Hawkesdale at Panmure on Saturday.
Resuming at 0-4 and chasing a Hawkesdale score of 217, Panmure flexed its batting muscle, losing just two wickets as it piled on 2-242.
Chris Bant hit his second century in a row with 100 not out while opener James McKinnon helped himself to 96.
They then wreaked havoc with the ball and by stumps had reduced Hawkesdale to 6-92 with Sam Mahony taking 3-26.
Grassmere dropped out of the top four after it was put to the sword by an impressive unit from Killarney.
The Crabs quickly moved to 4-189 and then declared with a 93-run lead and with hopes of an outright result on their radar.
Brayden Buchanan took his tally to nine wickets for the match when he snared 3-36 for the Crabs, which may have missed out on an outright win but still got deep into the Grassmere batting, leaving it at 5-83 in the second innings at play’s end.
The other big loser from the round was Purnim, which dropped from third to fourth after its was defeated by Mailors Flat.
With first innings points already in their keeping, Mailors Flat came into day two on Saturday keen to make sure it didn’t allow Purnim back in the game.
Opener Alex Goudy made sure of Mailors Flat’s moment of glory with an unbeaten 74, leading his team to a second innings score of 5-186.
While the rest of the competition wrestles with each other the one constant remains Yambuk, which has maintained its undefeated status at the top of the table.
The Buks cruised to victory against Wangoom on Saturday at Wangoom as they dominated with bat and then ball.
Chasing 195, Yambuk resumed on 0-70 and built on that to end with 7-288 thanks to half-centuries from Ben Julius (69), Rob Bleumink (68) and Patrick Sinnott (60).
After tea Yambuk had another bowl and by stumps had worked deep into the Wangoom batting list with 7-163 in an action-packed final session.
Yambuk captain Daniel Oakley said it was a pleasing result all round for his team.
“With the bat we had some good contributors and when we got to bowl again we got to throw the ball around and get some overs into some of our lads,” Oakley said.
“Wangoom is a pretty small ground and the outfield was lightning fast so they were always going to score a bit but we were happy to take seven wickets.
“We are not feeling any extra pressure being unbeaten so far. There were a couple of games when rain hit that we may have lost so we are not getting ahead of ourselves.”
