ABC Open hosted day one of a two-day beginner’s film-making program on Wednesday at The Artery in Warrnambool.
Five adults and 10 children were placed in mostly one-on-one groups to ask each other life’s big questions while recording their interviews on an iPad.
ABC Open producer Emily Bissland said day one was a success with plenty of interesting answers being shared.
“Some questions included ‘what is love?’ and ‘what is the worst present you have received?’,” Ms Bissland said.
“Funny things were said ... one child said the worst present she got was a whole lot of dog poo from her dog.”
She said the comments from children about love were revealing.
“(Answers included) what society has taught them, for example, marriage. Also that it’s a warm feeling, a nice feeling.”
Megan Nicolson took part with her nine-year-old daughter, Tully Farrington, and said they enjoyed the experience.
“I had to think about what to respond with. The questions were of a nature that you could be honest,” Ms Nicolson said.
“It was confronting watching yourself on the screen.”
She said Tully had revealed in her interview she would like to be a vet when she grows up.
Yesterday the group workshopped the recorded material into short films.
“The whole nature of the project (ABC Open) is to give regional Australians a voice and to tell their story in their way,” Ms Bissland said.
She said the ABC was appreciative of The Artery lending its space for the sessions.
