Members of the Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club youth development squad collected for Peter’s Project during the Moyneyana Festival New Year’s Eve parade.
The club presented $3650 to Peter’s Project founder Vicki Jellie and club captain Paul Buchanan praised the work of the club’s younger members. The club collects donations for the club at the parade every year and Mr Buchanan said this year the Moyneyana committee wanted to support Peter’s Project.
“We thought it was a fantastic thing to raise money for,” he said.
Mr Buchanan said the money raised was more than they’d usually collect.
“Maybe it’s because it’s such a good cause,” he said. “Everyone has been touched by cancer at some stage and Port Fairy residents are no different.”
Mr Buchanan said it had been no surprise to him that Port Fairy residents had been strong supporters of Peter’s Project.
“We’re a very strong community,” he said.
“Traditionally we get behind things. It doesn’t surprise me.
“We were very happy to help out and raise money on this occasion.
“We think Vicki Jellie is amazing. It was a terrific decision by Moyneyana.”
