ROHAN Creed and Lisa Worrall have urged Warrnambool Tri Club (WTC) officials to retain the inaugural Enduro on the competition calendar.
Creed and Worrall yesterday took out the unique swim-bike-run Enduro, which started and finished at the Blue Hole Road car park.
The event asked competitors to complete three laps of a 300-metre swim, seven-kilometre ride and two-kilometre run course — nine legs in total.
The swim was in the Hopkins River, the ride used Logans Beach Road and the run was on a path alongside Hickford Parade and Blue Hole Road.
Warrnambool athlete Creed, 37, won the race in one hour, 19 minutes and five seconds, more than two minutes ahead of the field.
Knox Tri Club member Ray Joy was second while emerging Warrnambool teenager Matt Champness came home third.
Creed said the nine-leg Enduro was unique and challenging but a welcome addition to the calendar.
“Any Enduro triathlon in itself is hell and when I saw the course I thought this is going to be really hard,” he said.
“It’s over pretty quickly but the intensity is really high, especially with the bike even though it’s so hilly.”
He said he hoped the Enduro would again be part of the WTC calendar next summer.
“It’s a great format but I’m really glad it’s only once a year. Hopefully they make it an annual event,” he said.
“It’s a great location and from a spectator point of view you get to see everyone go around and they can cheer you on.”
Worrall, 39, who finished on one hour, 32 minutes and 40 seconds, also had praise for the Enduro course.
“It’s a tough little course, tougher than I thought but it was good in it was something different,” she said.
“I went out too hard on the first lap thinking it’s only short and found the third lap really hard.”
Worrall also hoped organisers would retain the Enduro, pleased there were a variety of events for competitors to test themselves.
“The tri club calendar is really good because they mix it up. It keeps it interesting rather than just straight triathlons,” she said.
Natasha Cross was the second woman home with Karen Lourey third.
