BALLARAT runner Jesse Fullerton has spent his beachside holidays collecting race wins.
Fullerton, 17, made it two Warrnambool-based victories in four days on Wednesday night.
He took out Warrnambool Athletics Club’s five-kilometre summer series opener in 14 minutes and 51 seconds.
It complemented his 6km Surf ‘T’ Surf triumph.
Fullerton edged out Warrnambool duo Clinton Hall (14.59) and Tom Hynes (15.02) to snare the first of four summer series races.
They were among 217 competitors who took on the Flagstaff Hill course.
Hall and Hynes were regular one-two finishers throughout the 2013 series.
The more experienced Hall again had teenage rising star Hynes’ measure in the 5km trek on Wednesday night.
It came after Hynes, 16, turned the tables on Hall in the 10km Surf ‘T’ Surf, finishing one spot ahead in fourth.
Warrnambool’s Ella Gill won the women’s summer series opener from Naringal East’s Alicia Boyd and Maria Moloney.
Gill, fresh from her runner-up finish in the women’s 10km Surf ‘T’ Surf, blitzed the field in 16.48.
Boyd (19.07) backed up her 6km Surf ‘T’ Surf win and Moloney was third in 19.26.
Warrnambool Athletics Club president John Keats said the run attracted a “fantastic” turnout.
“We had 217 participants. It was our best effort so far so we’re very happy with that,” he said.
“The real running, healthy lifestyle is booming in the Western District and there are so many events out there.
“There’s not only running, you have walking and bike riding. It is a wonderful place to live.
“Moyne and Warrnambool councils are proactive in this area and that helps the smaller clubs out there.”
The summer series runs on Wednesday nights at Flagstaff Hill throughout January.
Registrations open at 5.15pm for a 6pm race start. The races coincide with Wednesdays on the Wharf, which run from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
