Two German tourists were assaulted at The Arch lookout near Port Campbell in the early hours of Boxing Day.
They had been sleeping in their campervan when a number of men attacked them with bats before stealing personal belongings. Acting Detective First Constable Jeremy Allen from the Warrnambool Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) said the men fled the scene in a white or silver Holden Commodore sedan.
“The offenders involved in this pathetic and cowardly attack are believed to be from the south-west area and would be in their early to mid-20s,” he said.
He urged people with any information about young males driving similar vehicles to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Warrnambool CIU on 55601116.
