YOLA Bennoun was so annoyed by being unable to find long-term parking bays near Warrnambool’s Archie Graham Community Centre that she organised a protest petition to the city council.

She collected 78 signatures in a few weeks and believes there would be many more users of the popular community venue who support the cause.
The issue will be discussed by councillors at their first 2014 meeting on February 3.
“Parking behind our club has become so scarce many members have found it impossible to attend some functions and have been forced to return home,” Mrs Bennoun said.
“This was built for the community — it’s our centre and we should be able to find parking nearby without fear of being fined.
“Maybe we could be issued with members’ permits for our cars,” she said
Mrs Bennoun said several parking bays behind the Timor Street centre were reserved for city council staff and others were often used by motorists as a free all-day parking area.
“At the maximum after Meals-on-Wheels vehicles leave the area we would have a dozen to 15 spaces available,” she said.
“Often our events run for several hours, so the meters in Timor Street or two-hour bays in Banyan Street are not always suitable.
“And walking from Koroit Street is not suitable for some members because of their age and health.”
