Summer shines a light on seaside mysteries

THE south-west’s Summer By The Sea program began this week with excited youngsters learning about creatures that live by the seaside.

A Rockpool Ramble at the Merri Marine Sanctuary was the first of more than 100 free activities that will run until February 23 in Port Fairy, Bridgewater, Port Campbell and Apollo Bay.

Other events include junior ranger programs, cliff-top walks, beachcombing, shipwreck tales, penguin encounters and an underwater film night.

Parks Victoria, Daktari Surf & Dive and the Friends of Merri Marine Sanctuary will jointly host the first of five weekly “Come and Try Snorkelling” activities at Stingray Bay today from 1pm.

The full program and bookings are available on the Department of Environment and Primary Industries’ website.
