Quarterly statistics released by Tourism Research Australia show an 11 per cent increase in domestic visitors to the popular destination, compared with the same period last year.
International visitation statistics were also positive, with an increase of 10.8 per cent over the same period.
Grampians Tourism chief executive officer Will Flamsteed said the figures showed the area was on track to reach the bumper visitor numbers last seen in 2000.
“The past decade has seen many obstacles for the tourism industry from natural crises to tough economic times, to the increase in low-cost airlines which offer enticing fares to overseas destinations,” Mr Flamsteed said.
“To record growth in light of those conditions is a huge achievement.”
Mr Flamsteed nominated marketing campaigns such as the “Instagrampians” social media activity as one of the reasons behind the rise in tourist numbers.”
