VicRoads said the section from west of Hendy Main Road to east of Waltons Road had been sealed and would open soon while pavement layers were being laid on other sections.
Speed restrictions will remain in force as contractors work on the new carriageway as well as rehabilitating the existing roadway.
The $220 million project was delayed by wet weather but the roads authority is still confident of completing it by the end of 2014 and is already planning work for the section to Colac.
Its latest bulletin said planning scheme amendments were being prepared for public exhibition.
Meanwhile, the CityLink tunnels and West Gate Bridge will be closed for resurfacing and maintenance works next week and early in the new year.
Domain Tunnel will be closed day and night, from 10pm on December 27 to 5am on December 31, while West Gate Bridge will be closed to city-bound traffic for eight hours from 11pm to 7am on the nights of December 27 and 28, with works rescheduled to the next available night in the event of rain. Burnley Tunnel will be closed day and night from 10pm on January 2 to 5am on January 7 and West Gate Bridge will be closed to outbound traffic from 11pm to 7am on the nights of January 2 and 3.
“We are urging drivers to plan ahead, consider an alternate route, and allow plenty of extra time to make their trip, particularly if they are heading to the airport,” VicRoads road operations director Dean Zabrieszach said.
