Dowie said the Warrnambool-based Edmonds would fill a mentoring role at the Saints.
“With Mick, it’s in a capacity of (help out) where he can but he’s been to training a bit,” he said.
“We think he has a bit to teach our players. I think Mick is looking forward to it and we are looking forward to someone of Mick’s experience being involved.”
Edmonds said he would play a key role with the Saints’ older players.
“I had a brief chat to Adam about it and he invited me along,” he said.
“He is really good at nurturing and developing the younger players and I know where he is coming from. Often your better senior players are neglected and they still need guidance and goals to work on.”
Edmonds coached Hamilton Kangaroos in their Hampden league debut season. The Kangaroos finished eighth with a 4-14 win/loss record.
Edmonds will complement another key off-season signing, new Saints assistant coach Matt Buck.
