Rescue mission for pool-bound horse

A horse that became stuck in a swimming pool on the Mornington Peninsula is being hauled out with a crane.

Firefighters and SES members are involved in the rescue operation that began just after midday when the animal somehow ended up in the pool on a Moorooduc Highway property in Mount Eliza.

A CFA spokeswoman said the pool had been drained of water and a crane and sling were being used to lift the horse to safety.

The horse was in distress but rescuers are confident it will survive its dip unharmed.

The CFA spokeswoman said she believed the horse was owned by the same people as the pool.

It is not known how the horse became trapped in the swimming pool.
