Russells Creek stalwart Jayaweera Bandara is organising a team of under 17s to take part in The Young Cricketers’ Development Program Twenty20 tournament.
The tournament, the fourth of its kind, runs from April 12-18 and includes sides from Australia, the United States, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India.
Cricketers will play in five Twenty20 matches as well as an additional game under lights at one of Malaysia’s premier grounds.
Bandara said he had helped organise a similar tour two years ago, to which the teens responded well.
“This is a great opportunity for south-west kids,” he said. “I am very passionate about cricket and would like to help keep it alive in Warrnambool,” he said.
“This will demonstrate to them the heights that they can achieve in sport and in life.”
