Pavilion restaurant operator Jon Watson will open the kiosk a week before Christmas and plans to operate it seven days a week serving drinks and snacks, including fish and chips.
“We’ll also provide visitor maps and information and sunscreen,” he said.
“It’s amazing the number of people visiting the restaurant who ask for tourist information. We will be referring people to the main visitor centre at Flagstaff Hill for accommodation and other bookings.”
City council tourism services manager Peter Abbott said the pavilion visitor office was closed because of budget restrictions and the space was leased out to the kiosk operator.
It operated for two summers at the $3.4 million pavilion complex, which was officially opened in March 2011 as an adjunct to the main office, which is staffed from 9am to 9pm.
