St Patrick’s Primary School Port Fairy is hosting its first Santa Scamper — a fun run and walk with a Christmas twist — this Sunday.
All participants when they register will receive a Santa hat to wear around the course.
The event offers a six-kilometre walk and run as well as a three-kilometre walk and run with both courses starting and ending at the school in William Street.
Santa Scamper organiser Shane Allen said interest in the event had been strong.
“We are hoping with this being our first one to get 100-plus registrations,” Mrs Allen said.
“Registrations online have been good and we are also expecting a lot of people to come along and register on the day. The weather is supposed to be perfect for it.
“We have had interest from the Warrnambool Athletics Club, the Surf to Surf and the triathlon club.”
Mrs Allen said the fun run/walk catered for everyone and would offer a prize for first place in the men’s, women’s and children’s sections.
However, the main focus of the day will be participation, with spot prizes including accommodation, jewellery and children’s prizes to be drawn during the day.
“The fun run/walk will obviously be a big part of it but there is also a lot more to the day as well,” she said.
“We want to create a family picnic atmosphere where people can have something to eat and drink as they cheer the participants on and then reflect once the fun run/walk is over.
“Santa will be there, the children will be putting their Christmas letters in the Santa box and we will also have a choir singing Christmas Carols so it will be a really fun and relaxing day for families to enjoy.”
Registrations in the lead-up to Sunday can be made at www.stpatssantascamper.com.au
On Sunday registrations at the school open from 9am with the first run/walk to begin at 10.30am.
