Sergeant Kelly McNaughton of Warrnambool police said two people in the car were injured and were trapped for some time before they were released by emergency workers.
A spokeswoman for Warrnambool Base Hospital said the two were in a stable condition and would be kept in overnight.
The impact of the collision with the truck at the intersection of Southern Cross Road and the Koroit-Mailors Flat Road spun the car into the front yard of a disused house, Sergeant McNaughton said.
The truck driver was not injured in the accident that happened about 6.45am this morning.
Moyne mayor James Purcell was called to the accident site by Southern Cross residents concerned that this morning's collision was the second at the intersection in a few weeks.
LATEST STORY: Intersection safety fears
Cr Purcell said both roads at the intersection were the responsibility of VicRoads but Moyne Shire Council was presently doing work there under contract to VicRoads.
He said the intersection presently had a Give Way sign on the Southern Cross Road and changing that to a Stop sign was among the options the council would put to VicRoads to improve the intersection's safety.
Other options were to offset the intersection so motorists could not drive straight across the Koroit-Mailors Flat Road, installing rumble strips or a flashing light that indicated there was a stop sign ahead.
Cr Purcell said those changes would help make drivers on Southern Cross Road more aware they were approaching a road at which they had to defer to traffic.
