The BIG4 Caravan Park and the Belfast Cove Holiday Park each received $110,000 under a program designed to boost the quality and variety of tourism experiences.
They were among 89 successful applicants across Australia to be funded in the T-QUAL program.
BIG4 Caravan Park was awarded a grant to create a “monkeys and mermaids” playground.
The project will create an all-weather recreation area including a big room, indoor playground, lounge area for parents and a new outdoor play area in a ship design.
Owner/manager Jenni Hider-Smith is hoping the new area will encourage people to visit during shoulder and off-peak periods and to extend their stay.
“Tourists often ask for places where they can take their children when the weather is down and we want to provide that option for Port Fairy,” Mrs Hider-Smith said.
“Our number one priority is happy families.
“We are very lucky to receive the grant to get the go-ahead with something that is positive for us and the community.”
They are hoping to begin work in March.
Belfast Cove Holiday Park’s project, called ‘The Living Space’, is an indoor multi-purpose room allowing guests to interact with other travellers, meet for meals or watch a movie. The area will be themed locally, showcasing artists, culture and produce from the community.
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said the grants helped tourism operators create more attractive and innovative tourism destinations.
“Tourism is integral to the economy of so many communities in Wannon,” he said.
