The two trophies, valued at $80,000 each, were on display at the school on Tuesday as part of a roadshow promoting the Australian Open and encouraging participation in the AO Blitz competition.
The online competition gives Warrnambool a chance to be represented by one of the world’s top players during the championship in January.
Individuals, schools and clubs gain points when evidence is given of participation in tennis-based activities.
As part of a National School Partnership Program, Tennis Victoria and local coaches assisted with clinics at the roadshow, giving the pupils a taste of Hot Shots, a starter tennis program for youngsters.
Tennis Victoria community tennis officer Sue Dundas said the day was about giving the town a kick-start for the online competition and linking global events to the grassroots of tennis.
“It’s really important to connect community people with something fantastic like the Australian Open,” Ms Dundas said.
“Now kids that have never been to the tournament can feel a part of the experience.”
As the only school in the district with access to the trophies, grade 5 teacher Cherine Owen said it was a great opportunity for the children.
