A planned outage was meant to put 200 east Warrnambool customers offline, including Rowley and Moore street residents.
However, an issue during the maintenance work left 3292 Warrnambool customers without power just after 10am.
Almost 400 customers in the Allansford, Mepunga and Naringal districts were also offline due to work at Otway Road, as well as homes in Terang, Cudgee and Panmure.
Supply was restored to all but 1752 of the affected Warrnambool customers at 10.45am and power was fully restored early yesterday afternoon.
East Warrnambool businesses as well as homes were inconvenienced in the outage, including Kmart at Gateway Plaza and the Flying Horse Bar and Brewery.
The restaurant’s manager Matt Monk said power was restored just before midday in time for lunch.
“One of our favourite patrons walked in and everything came back on,” he said.
“We probably had a few people coming through the pokies and TAB we couldn’t help before that.”
