MURDER charges against a 33-year-old Casterton man have been downgraded.
Aaron Jamie Ball had been charged with the stabbing deaths of Warrnambool’s Toby Lynch, 25, and Casterton’s Raymond McCombe, 38, in a Casterton Street during October 2011.
Ball was due to stand trial at the Supreme Court sitting in Warrnambool and pretrial arguments were to be heard this week.
Ball has now entered guilty pleas to two counts of defensive homicide and one charge of recklessly causing serious injury. He has been remanded in custody to return to court for a plea hearing next Wednesday.
Judge Elizabeth Curtain is scheduled to sentence Portland man Dylan Robertson next Wednesday.
Dylan Bernard Robertson, 32, previously of Portland and now of the Melbourne Remand Centre, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court in Warrnambool this week to being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Portland man Troy Hocking, 20, suffered a gunshot wound on October 15 last year and died the following day.
