HOMICIDE squad detectives and State Emergency Service volunteers will search the Nelson district today in connection with the disappearance of a man three months ago.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the search would be conducted 15 kilometres from Nelson in bushland following the discovery of a burnt-out Mitsubishi Pajero four-wheel-drive yesterday.
That vehicle is connected to a homicide squad investigation into the suspicious disappearance of 34-year-old Mount Gambier man Gordon Tearonui Hamm.
Police believe Mr Hamm was abducted at Nelson and possibly killed around 4am on Wednesday, July 17.
Mr Hamm was last seen on a bridge at the intersection of Portland-Nelson Road and Leake Street in Nelson.
Police believe Mr Hamm was the passenger in a silver Toyota Corolla sedan bearing South Australian registration plates.
The vehicle was being driven by a woman from Mount Gambier and was stopped by two vehicles on the bridge.
One vehicle drove in front of the Toyota and a second vehicle parked behind, effectively blocking the path of the Toyota.
The vehicles have been described as a white or light coloured four-wheel-drive and a dark coloured four-wheel-drive.
Anyone with any information about Mr Hamm is requested to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
