SECURITY at sports clubs in Mortlake and Nirranda has been beefed up.
The state government handed over $5000 for new locks at the Mortlake Recreation Reserve clubrooms and another $3500 for an alarm system at the $2.5 million Nullawarre-Nirranda sports complex development.
Western District MLC Simon Ramsay said although the allocations were small, they would protect the clubs from break-ins and crime.
“I know that there’s been issues with unauthorised entries. They aren’t huge grants but they are critical,” Mr Ramsay said.
Mr Ramsay said security grants of up to $10,000 were open to sports clubs through the community safety fund.
“The money allocated is there for community groups so I would encourage anyone looking to beef up their security to apply,” he said.
