THERE was a flurry of activity at a Port Fairy auction on Saturday as six bidders battled it out for ownership of a quaint two-bedroom home.
Forty-nine separate bids were made as more than 100 people watched the tussle for 8 Grant Street.
Ray White director Jess Densley said the action started from a $250,000 live bid, before to-ing and fro-ing from local bidders and out-of-town investors drove the property to its final price of $375,000.
“It’s an outstanding result,” Mr Densley said.
“It finished at $65,000 above the reserve ... so from the vendors’ and our point of view it’s a pretty amazing result.”
He said a Melbourne bidder was the successful buyer, but added that “one of the (unsuccessful) bidders went and bought another of our properties down the road (in Reardon Street) after the auction”.
Meanwhile, 25 people attended the Orford Hall for the auction of an outpaddock in the area.
Charles Stewart Real Estate director Nick Adamson said the 88-hectare (217 acre) property was passed in after an opening bid of $1500 an acre.
He said negotiations were continuing.
