DESPITE fluctuating spring weather conditions, south-west swimmers are limbering up for invigorating exercise in public pools across the south-west.
Warrnambool’s AquaZone was first off the mark, opening at 7am yesterday with a “shoulder season” running to November 16, when longer hours will kick in until closing day on March 16.
On shoulder season weekdays, pool gates will open from 6am-9am and 4pm-7pm, while at weekends it will be from 7am-10am.
Moyne Shire’s Mortlake pool will be open from November 9 to March 17 and Macarthur’s pool from November 16 to March 16.
Glenelg Shire’s outdoor public pools at Casterton, Merino, Heywood and Portland are scheduled to open on December 1 and close on March 31.
“During the 2012-13 season, the Casterton and Portland outdoor pools were opened for an extended period at the end of the 2013 summer due to favourable weather conditions and additional patronage during the school holidays,” the council said.
In Corangamite Shire, Terang’s pool will open on November 17 and close in March, while all other council-operated pools at Camperdown, Cobden, Timboon, Lismore and Skipton will open on November 23. Southern Grampians Shire will open the Hamilton pool on November 2 and close it on the last weekend in March.
Its other pools at Penshurst, Dunkeld, Glenthompson, Coleraine and Balmoral open on the first weekend in December and close on the Labour Day weekend in March.
