FRIDAY night “chook raffles” have been running at the Warrnambool RSL since World War II, but tonight they’ll take a fresh direction with proceeds going to the Peter’s Project cancer care centre appeal.
Organisers hope to raise about $2000 with the raffles tonight and next Friday night.
“It’s a worthy project we wanted to support,” said RSL life member and raffles co-ordinator Ken Cumming.
“We normally raise between $500 and $600 for RSL welfare, helping ex-service personnel and their families.
“Tickets are priced at $1 and we have prizes donated by sponsors and suppliers.
“Our executive has approved the proceeds from this Friday and next Friday to go to Peter’s Project appeal.
“Ticket sales start at 6pm and draws will be from 7.45pm to about 9pm, plus there will be an auction for the bigger items.
“We’ve got 100 people coming already so anyone wanting to take part should book in.”
