A FLEET of about 20 vessels will take to the sea off Port Fairy for a good cause.
The annual opening of the Port Fairy yacht sailing season on Saturday, October 19, will coincide with a fund-raiser for Peter’s Project.
Committee member Sue Adamson said a range of yachts, motor boats, fishing boats and a rescue boat will take part in a novelty race.
She said one of the highlights of the event will be the annual flare release, where flares which are only valid for 12 months will be ignited.
“After the race there’ll be a barbecue and music from Russ Goodear,” she said.
“There’ll be auctions and prizes. We’re encouraging as many as we can to come along. If you’re not a boat person you can still come and have a look.”
Ms Adamson said it was hoped each boat racing crew would donate to Peter’s Project.
“Peter’s Project is something we see as a priority to this region,” she said.
“Obviously we want to get on board.”
The event briefing will be at 1.30pm at the Port Fairy Yacht Club and the race begins at 3pm.
The barbecue is scheduled for 5.30pm.
