MORE than 300 people attended the 30th anniversary celebrations of Lion’s Allansford plant on Sunday.
The plant makes popular cheese brands including Coon, Cracker Barrel and Mil Lel.
Site leader Hans Essen-wanger said the team was proud to reach the 30-year milestone. Mr Essenwanger said the site opened its doors in 1983 as the Kraft Natural Cuts Plant and had retained many of its original workforce.
“Production at the site grew quickly from one shift and now has six production lines operated over three shifts, five days per week, 24 hours per day — producing about 15,000 tonnes of cheese a year,” he said.
The plant, which is located next to the Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory at 5331 Great Ocean Road, Allansford, employs 250 people.
Since 2009, the Allansford site has been part of Lion —created through the merger of National Foods and the Lion Nathan business.
The anniversary celebrations included the cutting of a cake, plant tours, show bags and a barbecue.
