IT wasn’t the place to be if you were a hay fever sufferer.
A steady stream of visitors made their way to church yesterday, not for sermons but for a bit of flower power.
The weekend’s Festival of Flowers at Warrnambool’s Anglican Church was a chance for floral fanatics to appreciate some delightful botanical arrangements.
Enthusiasts from around Warrnambool displayed their colourful talents at the annual event, which also included of Devonshire tea, music and plant stalls.
“We’ve been doing it for years and they just keep coming back,” spokeswoman Val Saffin said.
“They’re not just church flowers, we ask around the town.”
About 26 displays were arranged around the pews with donations going towards Peter’s Project.
The group has raised thousands of dollars for district charities since 1998.
And, happily, despite the preponderance of perfumed blooms, there was not outbreaks of sneezing.
“We haven’t had any complaints. When you’re putting things like wattles in you sometimes forget. It wasn’t too smelly this year,” Ms Saffin said.
