AN Op Art auction in Warrnambool tonight will showcase the creativity of Warrnambool artists who have transformed op shop bargains into works of art.
Event spokeswoman Helen Bunyon said many objects had been completely revamped from their original role to create clever and witty artworks — knitting needles moulded to create a nest of birds for a fascinator, tea cups and tennis racquets used to make political statements and drab lampshades given a jungle look.
The Op Art auction is an F Project event to raise funds for the renovation of The Artery, the arts hub being created in the former Guyett’s funeral parlour at 224 Timor Street. About 28 artists already work from the centre.
Ms Bunyon said about 50 Op Art works would be up for auction at The Artery tonight.
The event will start about 7pm and the band Foxhow will entertain.
