FOUR properties on Liebig Street in Warrnambool will go to auction next month in what will be a barometer of confidence in the once dominant “golden mile” of retailing.
The November 6 auctions follow more recent shop closures with observers counting 50 vacancies in the wider Warrnambool CBD.
However, selling agent Jason Thwaites of Ray White real estate says there is still confidence in central property ownership.
“Anything in the heart of Warrnambool is prime real estate,” he told The Standard.
“There’s definitely good interest in Liebig Street — you can’t replace it.
“In the past three to five years there has only been one sale of land holdings this size in the street — that was the Victoria Hotel.
“The former Lindsay’s Pharmacy building sold in August. We’ve had interest already in the properties which are being marketed in major metropolitan cities and overseas.”
The auctions at Lady Bay Resort start at 6pm for the former Pims clothing shop at 161a Liebig Street, the premises at 150 Liebig operated by The $2 Shop, the adjoining 152 Liebig operated by McMahon and Owen optometrists and the second-floor 150a, which has an agreement signed for a national tenant.
All properties are on individual titles and are being sold by a deceased estate.
