WARRNAMBOOL golfer Marc Leishman has endured a harsh reality check on the opening day of the President's Cup at Muirfield Village, Ohio.
Leishman and partner Argentine Angel Cabrera suffered a hefty 5/4 loss to Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar in their four-ball contest on Friday morning.
The result allowed United States to draw first blood in the biennial tournamament, and the Americans looked headed to secure a big lead after day one.
But the Internationals fought back after a rain delay to trail just 3.5 to 2.5 heading into the six foursome contests tonight, Warrnambool time.
Leishman scored the Internationals' only hole victory in his contest, a birdy on the par-three eighth. The win reduced his and Cabrera's deficit to one-up.
But Woods and Kuchar won four of the next five holes, sinking three birdies along the way, to claim a convincing win.
