COBDEN football export Jackson Merrett has capped off a breakout year with Essendon by claiming the Bombers’ Lindsay Griffiths rising star award.
Merrett, 20, received the award at the Bombers’ Crichton Medal function at the Crown Palladium on Wednesday night.
The athletic wingman was drafted to Windy Hill with pick 31 in the 2011 national draft and played 13 matches this year.
His best performance was a 17-disposal effort against Richmond in round 23, although his night also included a shocking miss from 12 metres out on the run.
Onballer Brendon Goddard claimed the club best-and-fairest award in his first season at Essendon.
