A PRESTIGIOUS medal will be awarded to 130 south-west firefighters involved in the devastating 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.
Country Fire Authority (CFA) leaders will present the National Emergency medals at ceremonies in Warrnambool and Hamilton on November 3.
A week earlier more medals are scheduled to be presented in Geelong as part of a statewide total of 4470 awards.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Kim Wells said the CFA members nominated had worked bravely to protect communities during the worst bushfires in Australia’s history.
“I want to commend the award recipients from across Victoria for the courage and commitment they showed to protect others during a long and difficult campaign,” Mr Wells said.
Earlier this year 224 Victorian SES members were presented with National Emergency medals in recognition of their service during the bushfires.
