DAIRY farmers have been warned about a series of burglaries in the Colac region committed while workers are milking cows.
Detective Senior Constable Jonas Todd, of the Colac police crime investigation unit, said a series of break-ins had occurred in the Colac district, especially around Pirron Yallock and Carpendeit.
"The offender is targeting dairy farm sharefarmers' house while people are away from their homes milking," he said.
"In particular cash and assorted items of value are being stolen. There have been burglaries at more than one premises and items have been taken from multiple rooms. The first of these offences happened on Thursday last week and we've had a couple of reports of these crimes."
Detective Senior Constable Todd requested that farmers and people living in rural areas keep an eye out for unusual vehicles.
"We would request anyone who sees a suspicious or unusual vehicle write down the registration plate number," he said.
"Something as simple as that can make an enormous difference to our investigations," he said.
