Sisters Grace, Sophie and Amelia will represent the North Warrnambool Eagles in different Hampden netball league grand finals at Warrnambool’s Reid Oval.
While dad Peter is an early riser being a horse trainer, mum Louise will be in charge of ensuring the trio is up and about for a hectic schedule on Saturday.
Amelia will be first on court in the 13 and under grand final at 8.30am followed by Sophie in the 15 and under final before Grace makes history with her Eagles teammates in the A grade decider at 1.30pm.
Grace, who was a member of the Eagles’ 17 and under premiership last year, will avoid the temptation of a leisurely build up by being courtside to support her sisters.
“I do like a sleep-in,” she said.
“It’s going to be hard to get up so early but I will spend the day there and walk around.”
Grace said she was looking forward to Saturday and expected she wouldn’t be alone being courtside so early with A grade teammate Laura Blackburn coaching the 15 and unders. She said the key to her build was to remain relaxed.
“I’ll just keep busy,” she said.
Grace doesn’t mind being busy.
She raced from school at Emmanuel College yesterday afternoon for her usual Tuesday night shift as a stablehand with trainer Matthew Williams before “running” across to training.
Taking a night off hadn’t entered her mind.
“I always work Monday and Tuesday nights — I don’t normally train on Tuesdays.
“It’s more of a hobby (than work).”
Challenges and hard work don’t faze the 17-year-old.
She played her first full A grade game earlier this season against competition powerhouse Koroit, the same side the Eagles meet on Saturday.
She played at centre against the Saints, matching up on multiple premiership players Kate Foster and Kate Dobson.
While she will more than likely start at wing defence on Saturday, the initiation has her better prepared for the Eagles’ first A grade grand final appearance.
“It was very tough but I was kind of expecting it,” she said.
Grace said excitement was building at home. Amelia is lining up in her first grand final while Sophie was a member of the Eagles’ 13 and under premiership in 2011.
While Amelia and Grace trained last night with their sides, Sophie opted to hone her goal shooting on what was supposed to be a night off.
