THE quiet town of Merino, west of Hamilton, experienced its version of a crime wave overnight Friday, with three cars damaged.
A Volvo station wagon was scratched in High Street between 6pm Friday and 11.40am Saturday.
The vinyl roof of a Citroen also suffered damage, while a Ford Ranger station wagon had eggs and sawdust thrown on it and a bumper damaged.
Detective Sergeant Steve Brown, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said a Heywood hairdressing business was also broken into overnight Saturday.
A small amount of cash was stolen from the shop in Edgar Street.
“Offenders have smashed a glass window in the front door. It looks like it has been kicked in after the offenders unsuccessfully tried to jemmy open the door,” Detective Sergeant Brown said.
Anyone with information about the cars is asked to contact Casterton police, with Heywood police station or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000) for the break-in.
