The 12-metre wall is to be constructed with the help of David Long, who was part of the team responsible for the winning display at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show in England.

Warrnambool Community Garden co-ordinator Geoff Rollinson said the curved wall would be built in front of the wood-fired oven and it was expected to take between one to two days in October.

He said once completed the wall would provide a gathering space around the oven at the garden and also tap into the heritage of western Victoria’s dry stone walls.

Mr Rollinson said Mrs Black had left an enormous legacy at the garden with the first grant for the project coming from the South West Community Foundation.

He said the wall would be known as Josie’s Wall.

Mr Long has been building dry stone walls for 20 years and he will lead a group of 10 workshop participants in the construction of the memorial.

He said the work was labour intensive and hard.

“You break fingers and get a few bruises,” he said.

Preliminary work for the wall began yesterday and the workshop will be run as part of the Dirty Weekend activities at Warrnambool Community Garden on October 12.

Other Dirty Weekend activities to run include a sticky fingers preserves competition, wacky pot plant competition, plant propagation and scarecrow making.
