SOME 20 years ago Warrnambool Lions Club placed an amount of money in a term deposit.
The money was surplus funds left over from a major project.
It was determined that the funds had to go to a major local project which the Lions club considered to be most beneficial to the community.
This week it was decided that the funds, a total of $15,000, would be donated to Peter’s Project.
Warrnambool Lions Club president Rob Cameron and past president Rob Askew said a number of club members had been touched by cancer.
“We just believe it is not only a project which will be beneficial for local Warrnambool people, but it will have a much broader reach out into the wider communities,” Mr Askew said.
A general rule for the club is that any funds raised in the community must go back into it.
Mr Cameron said the club’s motto was ‘we serve’ and the decision by club members was unanimous.
Mr Cameron and Mr Askew encouraged any other groups or clubs that may have surplus funds to contact Vickie Jellie.
Anybody interested in joining the Lions Club should contact membership chairman Mike Trevina.
n POLITICS and a good cause came together this week with another donation to Peter’s Project.
A total of $366 was raised at The Standard’s Wannon election forum on Wednesday night, when the public was encouraged to make a donation.
