It's more like a religious experience for the faithful, and if you've been once, then you are a convert, and you know you have to go again.
So when Aunty Meredith announces who will be gracing her Supernatural Amphitheatre each December (13-15 this year), it's akin to Moses coming down from the mount.
This year, preaching to the music-hungry masses there will be the returning disco-funk legends Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, the rambling rock 'n' roll happening that is Brian Jonestown Massacre, much-requested Georgian indie-rockers Deerhunter, grunge godfathers Melvins, techno innovator Derrick May, Aussie '90s icons Spiderbait, rising R&B stars Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes, local heroes Beasts Of Bourbon, hip hop wunderkind Joey Bada$$, the sweet sounds of Vance Joy, the off-kilter Canadian pop of Mac DeMarco, funky favourites The Bamboos, Aussie rap duo Hermitude, current cult stars Dick Diver, and '90s heavy-hitters Helmet.
And that's not all - there's also Jon Hopkins, Tim Sweeney, World's End Press, Le1f, Beaches, Oliver Tank, Roland Tings, Stonefield, Courtney Barnett, The Smith Street Band, Andee Frost, The UV Race, and, of course, the City of Ballarat Municipal Brass Band.
An added bonus will be 500 less people at the event at the Nolan Farm, which will make things just that little bit comfier.
The first round of the ballot has been allocated, future ballot rounds to come over the next month or so.
