The person who racially abused Greg Inglis and his wife Sally on social media has a history of doing so and may face criminal charges carrying up to three years' jail if the perpetrator can be identified. Sin Bin has been sent other posts from the same Instagram account with similar racist rants about interracial relationships. The abuse of Inglis was written as a comment on an Instagram photo of the Test representative and his wife and the other racist posts were also in response to photos. The NRL has vowed to track down the person responsible and it is understood he or she could be charged under S474.17 of the Criminal Code Act (1995): using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence. The maximum penalty is three years' jail. Blake Ferguson and Anthony Mundine were also subjected to racial comments two weeks ago, prompting Canberra star Joel Thompson to hit out on Twitter. ''Social media needs to take a stance against cowards like this. Put a stop to the abuse,'' Thompson tweeted along with a photo of the offending tweet. Bizarrely, several people advised Thompson he would be better off not retweeting the abuse.
