Kate's beaming success

WARRNAMBOOL’s Kate Stevens shone at the Warrnambool Springers Gymnastics Club’s annual invitational at the weekend.

Kate, 14, won the girls’ level eight competition.

“I came first on floor and first on beams,” she said.

“I was second on bars and third on vault.”

Hamilton’s Isabella Linke took home the girls’ level six title, Warrnambool’s Harrison Kilpatrick the boys’ level three crown and Portland’s Kostya Vallence won the boys’ level zero section.

About 200 gymnasts from across Victoria competed in the annual invitational at Warrnambool Showgrounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Competition organiser Pam Davis said girls completed a four-apparatus rotation and boys a six-apparatus rotation.

The girls performed on vault, uneven bars, beam and floor and the boys on floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, high bar and parallel bars. “Our boys were really pleased with some of their performances,” she said.

Davis said the competition was the ideal preparation ahead of tournaments in Melbourne and Geelong in coming weeks.

“It’s heading into competition season. Ours is one of the first.

“In the next six to 10 weeks we’ll send different levels to competitions,”she said.
