Westerns dominate Sandford to secure top spot

Westerns remain on top of the South West District league ladder after another convincing win on Saturday.

Westerns had control for the entire match, leading convincingly at every change before easily accounting for Sandford 27.9 (171) to 4.2 (26).

The Kangaroos booted 5.3 in the first quarter while Sandford could only manage 1.1.

They continued their dominance, adding 10.2 in the second, 6.2 in the third and 6.2 in the last.

Sandford on the other hand struggled to keep the pace, only adding 1.0 in the second, 3.0 in the third and 0.1 in the last.

The win has cemented the Kangaroos in the top position, four points clear of their nearest rival Heywood, who handed the Kangaroos their only loss for the season last weekend.

The lower positions on the ladder are somewhat tighter with positions three to six all tied up on 24 points.

Dartmoor, Cavendish and Coleraine sit in third, fifth and sixth position on six wins and four losses from 11 games, while Tyrendarra is in fourth spot with six wins and four losses from 10 games.

In other matches played on Saturday, Heywood had an easy win over Branxholme Wallacedale, 37.25 (247) to 4.2 (26), Cavendish defeated Heathmere 18.7 (155) to 9.8 (62) and Coleraine defeated Dartmoor, 18.11 (119) to 9.6 (60).

Cavendish has a bye this weekend, while Dartmoor will take on Heathmere, Heywood takes on Coleraine and Tyrendarra takes on Westerns.

Branxholme Wallacedale will be hoping for its first win of the season when it takes on fellow cellar-dweller Sandford.
